3 Tips To Make Your Bathroom Safer For The Whole Family

The bathroom of your home is one of the most dangerous rooms in your entire house. With the water, the slick floors, the chemicals, and more, it’s no wonder why so many household injuries take place in this room. And while you might not feel like you’re in any physical danger when in your bathroom, if you have elderly family members in your home or little children running around, you’ll want to make sure that your home bathroom is as safe as the bathrooms in an assisted living facility.

To help you get to this point, here are three tips to make your bathroom safer for your whole family.

Install Grab Bars

With the chance to slip and fall permeating throughout your entire bathroom, you’ll want to do everything you can to reduce the risk of someone slipping on the wet floor or other surfaces and landing hard on the ground.

One great way to do this is to install grab bars throughout the bathroom. Depending on who you have living at home and which areas are going to be most dangerous for them, you may want to install grab bars both around the bathtub and the toilet. This will give anyone in these areas an extra handhold of support when they need it most.

Reduce The Water Temperature

Something else that can be dangerous for anyone in the bathroom is the possibility of getting burned by water that gets too hot. If you have little ones at home, it can be very easy for them to move the water fixtures so that the water comes out much hotter than you expected, which can result in major burns for them.

Knowing this, it’s wise to drop down the temperature on your hot water heater if you’re worried about the possibility of burns. Ideally, turning your water heater to about 120 degrees Fahrenheit will be perfect for getting warm enough to bathe but not so hot as to cause burns.

Keep Surfaces Clear

Even when the floor in your bathroom isn’t wet, you can still trip and fall on things if they get left on the floor. And since people will be drying off from bathing, changing their clothes, and getting ready for the day or night in the bathroom, it’s very easy for surfaces and the floor to get cluttered. And when this happens, you may find people start getting tripped up easier.

To combat this, try to keep the surfaces in your bathroom as clear and possible. Make it a habit to keep clothes and towels off of the floor as well as putting away things on the counters as soon as you’re done using them.

To help ensure that no one in your home gets hurt in the bathroom, consider using the tips mentioned above to make your bathroom safer for everyone.
